Modern Art Parker Sails Hannifin Glass Water Sclupture from Swon Design

By matalangit On December 16th, 2009

This Amazing and Modern Architecture Design to Parker Sails Hannifin Glass Water Sclupture, SWON Design was commissioned by the Parker Hannifin Corporation of Mayfield Ohio, to design, fabricate and install a sculptural glass water feature that would become the signature piece of a 52 foot granite pond and landscaped plaza. The six different views of the plaza give a sense of scale and dimension to the sculpture. Five of the glass elements have been incorporated with a reservoir in the frame to allow water to cascade gently into the pond. Although the water is drained from the pond for the winter period, the sculpture maintains an elegance and aesthetic beauty throughout the seasons.

Modern Glass Smith House in West Vancouver from Arthur Erickson

By matalangit On November 27th, 2009

The site of the modern glass Smith Residence from Arthur Erickson was a slight declivity between two rock outcroppings that are on a prominence that slopes directly down to the sea. The glass house was conceived as a square spiral, built up by the lapping of the major beams around a courtyard. The appearance of the wood of the house is the result of considerable effort to find a finish that would not detract from the beauty of the grain and the natural lustre of the wood. The landscape, other than exposing the bare rock, is confined to paving blocks of the same material as the columns and beams. By reducing not only the number of materials drastically, but also the number of elements in the house design, a certain strength and simplicity is achieved.

Georgica Pond Modern Glass House Designed by Bates Masi Architects

By matalangit On November 25th, 2009

This thoroughly Modern Glass House at Georgica Pond in East Hampton, NY was built on the site of a previously existing modern home that did not adequately satisfy the new owners’ needs. New York based Bates Masi Architects nonetheless tailored the new home exactly to the owners’ specifications. This limestone, steel, aluminum and glass house built on the exact same footprint as one-story wood house that was here before. The monochromatic palette is carried into the modern interior where the architect used white limestone paired with broad, blank walls. Upon approaching the modern house, the elemental cube shape and monochromatic color scheme are its most striking features, starkly contrasting the surrounding landscape. The new owners, needing a larger glass house, wanted to continue the modern vernacular at this pond-front property.
