Adam Kalkin is most recognizable for the modern mariner crafting a dazzling home from old shipping containers coffee shop he designed last year for Illy. Now, Fast Company has a profile on Kalkin with a bunch of pics of his other structures. The modern mariner there is no doubt that the modern design architect and designer is trying to make the most out of resources available.

Based Shipping Containers

Kalkin’s prefab homes use anywhere from one to six, or sometimes even 12 shipping containers as the frame for the home. The man is famous for transforming shipping containers into beautiful and luxurious modern homes design that are in no way inferior to the traditional structures we’ve been used with. Ranging from a single room hub that is on the economy side of things to the full scale lavish homes that are more than just eye candy, Adam uses 6 to 12 containers to create these spacious and elegant interiors.
