This thoroughly Modern Glass House at Georgica Pond in East Hampton, NY was built on the site of a previously existing modern home that did not adequately satisfy the new owners’ needs. New York based Bates Masi Architects nonetheless tailored the new home exactly to the owners’ specifications. This limestone, steel, aluminum and glass house built on the exact same footprint as one-story wood house that was here before. The monochromatic palette is carried into the modern interior where the architect used white limestone paired with broad, blank walls. Upon approaching the modern house, the elemental cube shape and monochromatic color scheme are its most striking features, starkly contrasting the surrounding landscape. The new owners, needing a larger glass house, wanted to continue the modern vernacular at this pond-front property.

The house is now have two stories and the main entrance has double staircase to the second floor. The modern exterior design employs a tiered approach, with each level of the modern house stepping back and creating exterior walkways and terraces. However, subsequent zoning dictated building only on the exact footprint of the original modern house.
